TITLE: Impressed Current Cathodic Protection at the East Bay Municipal Utility District presented by Keith Packard, PE, East Bay Municipal Utility District

ABSTRACT:

EBMUD installed the first impressed current CP system for Mokelumne Aqueduct No. 1 in 1934. The District added two more aqueducts, 1940’s and 1960’s, expanding the CP system with each pipeline, and designing the improvements to the CP system as rectifiers and anode wells deteriorate.
The District maintains impressed current CP throughout the treated water and raw water transmission, distribution, treatment and storage facilities

 BIO:

Mr. Packard is a 30 year member of NACE and a Registered Professional Corrosion Engineer. He worked at corrosion engineering consulting firms in the bay area until 2017 when he joined EBMUD. He has designed, tested and rehabilitated cathodic protection systems primarily in the water and wastewater industry since 1989. He is an Associate Corrosion Control Specialist in the Corrosion Control Section of the District’s Pipeline Infrastructure Division.
